Digital cameras are great because they allow us to, well, easily take pictures of stuff. Small enough to fit your pocket, the camera can be taken with you anywhere you go. See something interesting, take out the camera and snap a shot. You can see preview of the image and if you don’t like the image, take another. This is great, compared to traditional cameras where you had to develop the film to see what you shot.

The camera will automatically give each photo a name. My digital camera is a Casio Exilim and it names photos like this: the first image is CIMG0001, the second is CIMG0002, the third is CIMG0003, and so on. All cameras do this. So when you download the images onto your computer, you must rename them to know what’s depicted in each of them.

This is where a software application developed by USINGIT.COM comes in. I am of course talking about the aptly named Photo Name Changer, an application that weighs in at less than 2MB (so you should be able to download it in a flash – get it?). After you download the application, you can install easily install it on your Windows operating system Just follow the steps in the setup wizard and you should do just fine. Photo Name Changer works with all versions of the Microsoft-developed Windows operating system.

What can you do with Photo Name Changer? The name is a dead giveaway, but I am going to spell it out anyway: you can easily change the name of all your digital photos. You can change the image’s name with:
- a customized text that you came up with.
- the current date and time;
- the file’s date and time;
- automatically increased series numbers.

The interface is extremely easy to figure out and use. In the top left hand corner of the screen you get to locate the folder where your images are stored. Select it and previews of all the images are displayed in the main window. Select an image and at the bottom, the option to change the image’s name highlights. Change the image’s name and click “Save Changes”.
